COMPANY S PRESENTATION

OCP (Office Chérifien de Phosphates) is the worldwide leader in the phosphate market.

The company has always had an outstanding position at a national and international level OCP is the first exporter of phosphates and one of the biggest fertilizers’ producer,  and it’s the largest company in Morocco in terms of turnover (more than 4 billion dhs). Hence, it’s a model of economic performance, but not only. Indeed, the company stands out by a premature environmental awareness, because it always been able to combine economic performance and environmental protection since its creation in 1920

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

OCP is one of the first Moroccan companies that have integrated sustainable development and mostly CSR into its daily activities.  From the very beginning, the group has been committed to:

  • A dynamic to preserve the environment
  • Contribute socially for community development
  • Create         GREEN CITIES
  • Education, learning and training
  • Help agricultural development

We will go into more details through the sustainable agricultural development actions, knowing that OCP has always supported Moroccan agriculture, since 2008.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE[pic 8]

OCP’s environmental policy is determining and this is illustrated with the presence of a “Sustainable Development” department which covers social and environmental issues.

The company’s CSR policy provides also sustainable agriculture program, which help protect the soils by compensating the effects of the fertilization, and support the innovation and entrepreneurship on a national level in the agricultural and agro-industrial sector.

 Let’s go into more details through the actions the company takes in order to support sustainable development.

  1. SIMPLIFY THE USE OF FERTILIZERS

To do so, the company introduced a program that aims to enhance the use of fertilizers. The objective of this program is to ensure sufficient fertilizer at the best costs, and compensate under-fertilization. Hence, in order to protect farmers from the surge in input prices, the company sold fertilizers at prices that are below the market prices, with a shortfall estimated at nearly 2.6 billion dhs.[pic 9]

  1. EVALUATE SOIL’S FERTILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A CARTOGRAPHIC PROJECT

To reach good and satisfying agricultural results, it was crucial to know the soil and its needs.OCP assigned a budget of 63 million dhs for a huge cartographic project (National Fertility Map) that helps evaluate soil fertility and fertilization’s needs in order to optimize the use of fertilizers and help farmers saving money.

Hence, in 2013, more than 8.7million hectares of arable lands have been mapped, estimated and checked thanks to this program.

The company wants also to propose similar projects thanks to partnerships in different parts of Africa.

  1. PROMOTING AGRICULTURAL INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE AGRICULTURAL AND AGRO-INDUSTRIAL SECTOR

In 2010, the company launched an Investment Fund, called “OCP Innovation Fund for Agriculture”, with an initial budget of 200 MAD, and which objective is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in this field. This investment fund is open to any innovative project developer who is sustainable and who allows the creation of any competitive and inventive structures for sustainable job creation in Morocco. The company puts entrepreneurship and innovation in the center of a national progress and considers it one of its major concerns, and mobilizes all the necessary human and financial resources to this issue.
