For me, High school cliques means any group in which students are doing, learn or in a school activity. By stereotypes your personality is determined by your social group. I think it's important to study this because at our age: we grow up and we need to find our place. But this is not obvious: how to do it and sometimes why we have to join a social group. And through my personal experience we will try to answer this question: Do I think that I can be myself in a group? In order to answer the question in the best possible way, but also to help people who are confused about it, we will first define stereotypes and the different social groups in high school. Then, in a second paragraph, we will study the impact of these groups from a positive and a negative way.
There are many social groups: but there are some main ones. First, we can talk about “Geeks”: a group of students described as intellectual and obsessive. The hobbies of "geeks" are generally: movies, video games... Also, the group of “Jocks”: live for athletics, tend to be popular. They may be the male equivalent of "mean girls". An important group like “Preps”: Preps tend to be sociable and fun-loving and usually come from a middle or upper class family. In most high schools, Preps are the ones most often chosen for important positions at school events, such as class president, prom king/queen... Contrary to the "mean girls" stereotype, Preps often get along with everyone. To finish there is “Nerds”: They are obsessed and often have superior knowledge or devotion to something, usually aren't fashion-conscious, and they often do well in school. Of course, there are others. (Thespians; Skaters; Outsiders; Hipsters; Scenesters; Rockers…)
So, there are many positive and negative points related to social groups. But the most important ones are: social groups help us to grow, to find our identity, to share our hobbies, what we like with other people who share the same values. The same people who can more easily become friends... Despite its many positive points, social groups determine our identity and we are classified into these social groups without our consent. Moreover, social groups are judged and sometimes even insulted by other social groups for example: smart geeks sometimes find it difficult to fit in socially, as many teenagers consider them more boring to be around than others.
So, to conclude, the groups are defined by the values of the sports activities, and have their own personality. Personally, I find that I exercise almost all the stereotypes of these groups. As well as everyone else can exercise them. So, I don't think I belong to any particular social group. I think it's even bad to be part of one because it prevents you from discovering other things.
