"Once upon a time …." This is how all fairy tales begin. Dreams, wishes, fantasies that we want to come true. Every so often, reading fairy tales, I feel like being the protagonist: I live my own life conditioned by a magical inner world where reality and fantasy merge, conditioning the choices and emotions of that "protagonist" that I feel I am, with the sole purpose of helping him to reach, in his daily adventures, the much desired happy ending. The fears that we carry inside can transform the outside world into a hostile and persecutory environment, as if it were populated by dragons or invincible monsters against which we can only activate all our defenses, isolating ourselves or running away. But reading, all those problems seem to have a solution.

The vagueness of the fairy tale indicated with the formulas "Once upon a time ...", "In a certain / distant country", symbolizes that I am leaving the concrete world of everyday reality. After taking me to a wonderful world, the story eventually brings me back to reality, and in a very reassuring way. "This teaches us that letting oneself be carried away by the imagination is not harmful, as long as one does not remain a prisoner"

So for me a fairy tale is a way to get away from reality, living all my desires. Instead of living one life, I live endless ones.
