Idea of progress

I am going to talk about the idea of progress

Definition of the notion: the progress is the ability to make better some subjects, some topics like science, technology (communication/Internet) or medicine. But it could be in not physical subjects and in human questions: social progress.

Problematic: How evolved the social progress in USA between the 20th and the 21th century ?

Two parts: Martin Luther’s fight and Obama’s election.

-Although the Slavery abolition, the discrimination against the black community was here during the 20th century.

- There had laws, which were made to separate blacks and whites

-Some whites people created groups like KKK, because they regretted slavery and they were afraid to the idea that black could have liberty.

-> Some peoples fought for the social progress -> Martin Luther King was one of them.

He was a pacifist and made famous speeches (ect…)

He took part of many events like the Rosa Parks’ bus boycott.

The president Kennedy, who promoted the law witch give to blacks and whites the same rights received him.

  • Social/human progress because MLK was an actor of the equality.

At school we saw an audio document where Obama said that he would ever be president without MLK

And I want to speak about him now

Obama gave a new image of the USA, not because of his politics choices, but because he was the first black president of one of the most powerful country in the world, and of a country witch went out the segregation few years ago.

As a conclusion: We know that there still is racism in USA, but we saw that the social progress needs one important thing: the time
