Black Friday: It’s a day when you can buy things in sales. It is the day after Thanksgiving. In the USA Thanksgiving is the on the fourth Thursday of November. It’s a holiday for the American.

In general Americans spend more on furniture(mobilier), appliances electronics(électromenager) and travels(voyage).

The millennials buy more on Black Friday ,maybe because they have more money or they don’t see a price.

Maybe the older generation have already everything or they buy less on internet.

Search for information on other “shopping days” in pairs and present them to the class. Look for:

-Buy Nothing Day : It’s a day of protest against consumerism. The consumerism is a phenomenon with the tendency to systematically buy new products. It’s the day after Thanksgiving .It’s the total opposite of Black Friday. It started in 1992 in Canada.

-Boxing Day: It’s a holiday celebrated on the 26th of December by British people. In the origins it was to give gift to poor people. Now everyone gives gift to everyone and there are sales. The first Boxing day is from 1743.

-Cyber Monday: During Black Friday deals, cyber Monday focuses on online discounts. It allows website who don’t have physical stores to participate. It was imported to Europe in 2010.

-Free shipping day: It started in 2008 to extend the online  shipping(=livraison) season. It’s one day event led annually in Mid-December. It is possible for big and small online merchant that offers Free delivery(=livraison gratuite) and to receive
