Chronology:

17/09/22: John’s son gets drunk with his shady friends (témoin)

17/09/22: Rape of Jules’s daughter: in the streets as she was coming home from party, he catches her behind and drugged her with GHB and took her to an alley. He did after his business with her and went away.

(17/09/22: Police finds her and “promise” to find the rapist) 

10/22: The daughter didn’t dare to call the police (Cerise) but talked to her father about it. He tracks the guy, finds his house and goes to kill him.

30/12/22: Murder of John’s son

06/01/23: John accuses Jules to have murdered his son because Paul tells him, without knowing his crime

1. Trial Script

1. Opening the trial and statements

Judge: All rise. [Rise] The court is now in session. I, Judge Anglès, will be presiding. Please be seated. [Sit] Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Calling the case of Mr. De Jerphanion versus Mr. Man. Are both sides ready?

P.A.: Ready, Your Honor.

D.A.: Ready, Your Honor.

Judge: Will the jury please stand and raise your right hand? [Jury, stand] Do each of you swear that you will fairly try the case before this court, and that you will return a true verdict according to the evidence and the instructions of the court, so help, God? Please say “I do”. [Jury, “I do”] You may be seated.

Judge: Jules, you are accused of murder, do you understand that ?

Defendant: I do.

Judge: Do you plead guilty or not guilty ?

Defendant: Not guilty

P. A.: [Stands] Your Honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury: the defendant has been charged with the crime of murder. Your honor, we are treating the case of the death of the son of my client: M. Tony, right here. On the evening of the 30th December 2022, Tony was miserably killed, assassinated, murdered in an awful and savage way. He was at his local with his father studying for his finals to enter medicine school. It was his dream to join them, but now he has left us. As I will prove to you, the one and only suspect can just be Jules : everything all coincides ; but as you know my excellency always requires me to present concrete evidence and the evidence I am going to present will prove to you that the defendant is guilty.

D. A. : [Stands] Your Honor and ladies and gentlemen of the jury: under the law my client is presumed innocent until proven guilty. During this trial, you will hear no real evidence against my client                                        {opening statement}

judge: please stand. raise your right hand. do you promise that the testimony you shall give in the case before the court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth

John: I do

judge: please state your first and last name

P.A: John, I know that the situation is very difficult and painful for you, and I highly admire your presence and your strength. I can't imagine how difficult it is to lose a son, even after suffering from his previous misbehavior and mistakes. John, can you explain to me what happened?

John: Yes, I'm still shocked by what happened. My son was killed for no reason while he was studying for his medical school, and I don’t want this cruel murder to go unpunished. 

P.A.: Where were you at this moment?

John: Oh, like every day, I was taking my shower

P.A.: And how did you discover the death of your son?

John: I heard a strange noise in Tony's room. So, I went to his bedroom, and I saw him dead on his bed. 

P.A.: I imagine that it was difficult, how did you react?

John: After I had recovered a bit I called the police. After a few minutes, the police arrived and analyzed the scene. They found a strange weapon, probably from the crime. I am still upset about it.

judge: does the defense have any questions?

Arthus: Yes, your honor. when did the crime was committed

D.A: the defense calls Jules

jules : Jerphanion. Jules de Jerphanion

P.A: Your honor, I would now like to add further important details on the reason why the police were surprised by the murder weapon. Why were they surprised? Policemen are usually well experienced and know every arm possible. In fact, this is an arm that is very efficient and very difficult to find in the market and secondly this is an arm that is generally gifted to ancient high officers.

Jules, were you an ancient soldier?

Jules: No

P.A: I have here the proof that you were an ancient soldier. 

Arthus: objection your honor. It’s ridiculous my client is a good citizen and so have done his military service. Is this right mister?

Jules: Yes

Arthus so we have the confirmation that the prosecution tries to find a way to discredit my client but he cannot. He just tries to find a link between this weapon and my client and they aren’t any

I had also some other question to my client. mister de jerphanion, do you know this person

Jules: (yes, he is one of my colleague, i took the job that he wanted two months ago) 

Arthus: So he can have accused you to get revenge against you and to take the job you earned by the sweat of your brow, hum that’s interesting, very interesting. the crime has been committed on the 30 December 2022, is that right? (To the prosecution) 

Prosecution: yes

Arthus: perfect so Jules what were you doing at this moment

Jules: …

Arthus: was there anyone with you at this moment or were you alone

Jules: yes, there was …

Arthus: can you describe him, how he looks, how he speaks, does he have a clean criminal record, what does he do for a living and what are his hobbies.

Jules: …

Arthus: so, he is a great united states citizen than we all must be

Jules: yes, the best of all

Arthus: does he came to the trial

Jules : of course he is my best friend

Arthus: perfect I will call him later

Arthus: mister de Jerphanion, do you have passed any psychological test before this trial

Jules : yes when i was five after a bad injury to my head.
