Today I’m going to present you battery counterfeiting and more exactly of the brand Duracell.

First of all, I’m going to present you Duracell Company.

To continue, I will talk about real cases of counterfeit Duracell goods seized by customs services.

Then, I will present you the consequences of this kind of counterfeiting for the consumer, for the company, and for the economy.

To finish, I will explain you how to identify a counterfeit Duracell battery.

Duracell is an American company that produces alkaline batteries and smart power systems. The company was founded in the 1940s. It is an iconic brand, trusted for its compact and longer-lasting batteries. Its brand is one of the most famous in its domain all over the world.

Duracell batteries are often counterfeited and sold in the world.

In total, more than one million counterfeit Duracell batteries was seized by customs services.

For example in 2012, Chinese Customs services stopped a cargo of 72,000 batteries that counterfeited the US brand Duracell just before their exportation.

Before that, in 2009, French Customs services discovered 27,207 (twenty seven thousand, two hundred and seven) counterfeit batteries of the Duracell brand in Paris.

For this, the customs officers inspected warehouses and retail stores, where they discovered a large stocks of counterfeit products.

These counterfeit products cause many problems.

First of all for the consumer:

Materials and components of counterfeit batteries are poor quality goods. They can heat or explode which is which is hazardous for customer’s safety.

Moreover, they can cause internal shorts that can cause fires or burns which is hazardous for customer’s health.

The counterfeit Duracell products lifetime is lower than the original product.

Counterfeit batteries can damage devices in which consumers use them.

For Duracell Company, it’s also a problem to be counterfeit.

This causes it a loss of turnover and diminishes its brand image and notoriety.

The marketing of counterfeit products is also a problem for the economy because counterfeit products are sold in underground market. This illegal activity is not counted in the wealth produced by companies.

However, it’s possible to identify if a Duracell battery is counterfeit or not.

To begin, the label on authentic Duracell batteries can’t be peel off contrarily to the label on counterfeit Duracell Battery.
