How is art a good means of expression?

Art is for artists their means of expression. An artist can express everything through his art, but a good artist can also make us feel what he wants. We are particularly interested in authors and painters.

There are several methods to convey emotions through painting and writing, such as depicting them through characters and their relationship or backgrounds.

Writers use words to give relief to their ideas or can even bring them to life through their characters.

The painter can represent by image or not what he wishes, and detail more or less a part of his painting in order to emphasize an emotion or a message. These artists use the characters to convey emotions to us, but not only. They also use the scenery and immerse us in their artwork. Much Ado About Nothing presents a magnificent villa in Sicily, and Arthur Hughes uses a beautiful forest.

Shakespeare’s texts have always been a reference in this field. He can convey positive and negative emotions to us according to his desires. Much Ado About Nothing is proof of this.

In this play, Shakespeare makes us pass from joy to sadness easily, and his characters help us greatly. The love that Benedick and Beatrice feel for each other is felt not only through their dialogues but also in their behaviour towards each other : «I do love nothing in the world so well as you : is not that strange ?» (Benedick), «I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest.» (Beatrice).

As for the painter, there is As You Like It which is a triptych by Arthur Hughes. On the right side of the work, is painted a couple who eat grapes together, which represents their relationship and the fact that they consume it together. In the middle part, we see an old man dying in the arms of a younger man, which makes us feel pain and empathy. On the left side, we see a woman dressed in hunting clothes, she represents the adventure side of the theatre, because yes, this painting represents the theatre.

In theatre, we can also use facial expressions and staging, without forgetting of course the acting.

Theatre is an art form, which makes it a good method of expression. It is easier for some to express themselves through a fictional character than by themselves, especially when it comes to feelings.
