IDEA OF PROGRESS

INTRODUCTION 

• This year in class we’ve studied the notion idea of progress and i will give a definition of this.

• The idea of progress is the idea that advances in technology, science. This organisation can bring about a positive change to our society.
• We can put this notion with three documents that we have studied in class, that will be the evolution of technology and the consequences

• We may wonder if Does progress facilitate the lives of citizens in our new technology society and what are the consequences?

• First we will talk about the aspects of the new technology and what are the consequences of these technology and then we will see the awful effects of these new technologies. To illustrate my lines, i have chosen three documents which are a blogpost from the website GREENPEACE that is an environmental organization which focuses on protecting the environment.

• And then an article from the Guardian which is called « BLACK MIRROR REVIEW » deals with the british TV series Black mirror, and finally an interview of Edward Snowden who spead information about the mass surveillance of the NSA.

PLAN

1. First, since the twenty-first century, new technologies and progress have changed our life.

In fact, as Greenpeace said « just ten years ago, we took pictures with cameras used maps to plan road, and kept in touch with friends and family » while today all of this are replaced by new technologies meaning smartphones and these new technologie have changed the way we live, they have made our life easier but we are too much dependent of them.

         The awful aspects of these new technologies is the negative aspects on environment, because the over consumption impacts on the environment. Smartphones involves th extraction of metal ore, Moving these phones by boat increases the carbon footprint and the oil.

Also, the technology is a fulfillment for consumers because each year people see a new model which encourage the purchase. For exemple there are 7 billion phone in the world, this can explained by the urge to buy new phones.

II. Then the article from the guardian Black miror. This series reflects on the unexpected consequence of technology. It is review of one of the episode’s series.

In this article the journalist explain how the world in this series works, people are no longer defined by their personality, what defines them is how people rate them. The journalist reflects on the dystopian world depicted in charlie Brooker’s series. This serie uses the technology we all use and know. The technology in this article have a has bad judgment, it obsesses people and these forget their humanity and their lives, technology ruin our lives, and move us away from our daily lives,
