BTS MUC télétravail séance 1

1) Exercise :

As technology shrinks the globe, the need to understand other cultures becomes more important.

When a small business promotes itself over the Internet, it has the potential to become a global business.

A customer enquiry from Melbourne can arrive as easily as one from Manchester. Should we treat everyone who contacts us in the same way ? How do we develop the skills to create and sustain effective relashionships  around the planet ?

Developping one's knowledge of a foreign language is always worthwhile. Developping cultural awareness is crucial. Another challenge is to succeed communication accross time zones. We have, now, the ability to be anywhere in the world, at any time, with anyone.

Globalization represents all the worldwide exchanges : it's a big connection between politics, national trade and communication.

Globalization presents opportunities and challenges, which are different according to the situation of each country.

All that gathers the economy, the ecology, the society and the politics, should it concern threats or benefits.

It made the countries really interdependant. Globalization leans on media (the radio, the internet, social networks..) which have become standard in our society, thanks to the different organisations between countries (ONU for example). It allows information worldwide in real time, we see a lot of different opinions about everything, cultures, types of products...

Globalization has been made possible thanks to the development of transports, like the containers.

Moreover, transports have become really affordable thanks to the technological progress. All the trade barriers have fallen, the tariffs, quotas or bans to improve the exchanges between countries and create an open market.

The main goal of globalization is to produce and sell worldwide.

ECONOMY

POLITICS

CULTURES

Actors of globalization always search new, cheaper markets, countries with low wages or fees.

That allows to create more and more multinational corporates and make the economy more effective.

There is a lot of issues :

Climate change, financial crisis, terrorism.

Moreover the organisations between countries create powerful pressure groups.

A lot of local politics disappear due to international politics.

The popular cultures destroy the local cultures, there is no diversity anymore and yet people increasingly try to back up towards local and regional cultures.

Globalization profits emerging countries because the low prices are very attractive to corporates and there are not many competitors while there are many potential customers.

On the contrary, for underdeveloped countries, it is really difficult to distinguish themselves, they are not prepared efficiently, the productions of other countries destroy the local production and they haven't got any ressources to stop that.

To conclude, globalization can be an advantage for some countries as much as a problem for others.

And today, all the rules are changing, with the stakes more visible than ever !!!!

Here is another Work on the video...

(Romane)

The main ideas about globalization that come from this video is that it represents both an opportunity and a challenge.
